Proposal to Increase Fines in "Kay Ivey Confederate Monument Potection Law"

The AP reports Republican State Rep. Mike Holmes wants to increase fines for violating the "Memorial Preservation Act". It's a flat $25,000 fine now, and some municipalities have paid it as a cost of moving controversial monuments to other locations."

Holmes bill would increase that to a $10,000 a day fine.

The AP also reports Holmes claims that the Civil War was not about slavery.

Governor Ivey signed the original measure into law and bragged about it in a campaign commercial.
