Alabama is tops...when it comes to depending on the Federal Government for revenue.
PEW has the analysis: 36.8% of the money Alabama spends comes from the feds.
Almost 19% comes from state "service charges".
...and 38.3% comes from State Taxes.
(A PEW note about the numbers: "This analysis uses 'general revenue', which accounts for all state revenue sources except state-owned liquor stores, utilities, and insurance trust funds.")
Alabama has the 4th highest taxes on liquor, so it is a significant source of revenue. Alcohol consumption in Alabama averages 2.1 gallons a year, ranking it 8th from the bottom--Utah is last, at 1.34 gallons. New Hampshire is tops, at 4.76 gallons per capita annually.
