"Wendy Castenell, Assistant Professor of African American Art in the Department of Art and Art History at The University of Alabama, will jury the 2021 MAG exhibition. Her research interests include representations of race and ethnicity in American visual culture, portraiture, photography, early cinema, and turn-of-the-century spectacles. Castenell will select between 60 and 80 works from approximately 400 entries from about 100 artists. These selections showcase some of the best contemporary art created in the River Region today."
I'll be watching a virtual presentation by Wendy Castenell this morning about her selection process, a "juror's critique".
Then this afternoon I'll go visit the exhibit.
She selected two of my three submitted photos to be included in the exhibit, including this one, which also won first place in the Regions Bank exhibition this year.
I titled the photo "A Second Talk" because I took it at the EJI Lynching Memorial, and I envisioned the adult as a father, trying to explain the concept of lynching to his son, impossible task though that may be.
The Montgomery Museum of FineArts exhibit will be open through August 15th. I'll add some photos from the exhibit to this post later today.
The museum has done an excellent job providing an interactive high-def program allowing you to go through the exhibit!
It is HERE.
