A History Lesson from Professor Tuberville

There is a Congressional committee studying how to change the names of U.S. military bases currently named for confederates who took up arms against the United States, for example Ft. Rucker in Alabama. They are scheduled to present a status report today. Here's The Senator's analysis in advance of that report:
“We’re going to fight that. You can’t destroy history, you can’t change it,” he said. “We need to learn from history. I believe in our history and how we got here, right or wrong. We build off of history and changing the things that we need to change but we don’t need to be destroying history. You have to learn from it.”*

                                            U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL)

Senator, why do you think there are no German military bases named for famous Nazis? Are the German people "destroying history"?
