NYC Trivia

New York's Immigration Center...Ellis Island...was originally just three acres, but the island’s size quickly doubled to over six acres.

That was made possible by the use of landfill created from incoming ships’ ballast and the excavation of subway tunnels in New York.

It eventually grew to 27.5 acres.

Subway construction started in NYC in 1902. Dirt from the projects was used to expand Ellis Island.
