Two of the Alabama Senate Seats stand out in this photo because they are lit by the early morning sun on Friday. (note the spittoon! In the 1850's legislators in Montgomery AND members of congress in Washington could smoke or chew tobacco in the building!) These are in the restored legislative chamber in the old Alabama Capitol Building in Montgomery, still home to offices for a half dozen current Constitutional offices, including the Governor.
HERE is information about tours. (Note: Today, Monday April 22nd, is a state holiday, and the capitol building is closed.)
