So far in Alabama, five churches have decided to leave the United Methodist denomination...and 35 others may leave after a special-called meeting this Saturday. The division is because of a dispute over gay members and gay clergy.
The largest Alabama church to leave so far is in Montgomery: The Frazer United Methodist Church, a megachurch located on Atlanta Highway. It is/was the largest Methodist church in Alabama, with 4,000 members.
A PEW study found more than half of Alabama residents oppose homosexuality.
