During my years as a News Director in Birmingham, I was invited to a gathering of fellow directors at The White House during Jimmy Carter's Administration. The station (WERC) agreed to pay my way, and there I was at a luncheon with Mr. Carter!
I had a similar invite during the Ronald Reagan presidency, and also went...but they didn't provide a handshake opportunity or a photo op! (I sat at a table with a forgettable member of his cabinet!)
