In The Bronx

A street has been named in The Bronx, New York for Montgomery native Claudette Colvin, who, like Rosa Parks, refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus for a white rider, and was arrested as a result.

But Colvin's arrest was not protested and used to challenge the segregation laws here because she was a pregnant teenager at the time, and civil rights leaders didn't believe her case would be treated well. They instead waited for Rosa Parks arrest.

The New York Street was name Claudette Colvin Way in 2020. You can see a TV report about it HERE.

Yes, there is a street in Montgomery named for her as well. You can see it HERE.
