 "Who" vs "That".

From national TV Ads to people quoted in stories, there is a storm of misuse when it comes to those two words.

A few examples:

Search Underway for Person That Killed Man in Hartford

'I have forgiven the person that killed my mom'

 

It's "WHO", not "THAT"! 

Recent examples of misuse:

“The people that receive the most help are the folks in the bottom percentile, folks who are struggling the most put food on the table,” said Jones, R-Centre, while flanked by members of Alabama Arise, the non-profit organization that advocates for the poor. (from AL.COM 5-8-23)

Gov. Robert Bentley not long after his 2011 election:

''I think that Dr. Martin Luther King was one of the greatest men that has ever lived."

“We need the Senate to do their job so that we can have a sitting commandant that’s appointed and confirmed.
