162 Years Ago Today...

...The confederate "Congress" met for the last time in Montgomery, Alabama...then moved to Richmond Virginia.

They met in the 1862 Capitol building in which the confederacy had been created.

Jefferson Davis was sworn in on the steps of the building, as seen in this rare photo of the event.

There's no confederate flag on the dome of the building because it had not been crafted yet in 1961.

Had the confederacy stayed in Montgomery, the capitol building would most likely have been destroyed. Remember what happened to Richmond, which became the second confederate capitol:

Richmond, Virginia, 2nd Capital of the confederacy.
