Statues

An article in The Washington Post totals the number of statues honoring various people across the country, and Jefferson  Davis ranks 13th, with 30 statues, presumably including the one outside the Alabama Capital building---where he was elected and sworn in as Confederate President in 1861.

Abraham Lincoln has the most statues in the U.S., 193, though none are in the Southern States.

Robert E. Lee ranks 6th, with 59 statues.

There are 86 statues of Martin Luther King, though none is in Montgomery, where he was pastor of the Dexter-King Church. There were plans for a statue outside the church, the topic of an article in The Montgomery Advertiser in 2018:

(Mayor Todd) "Strange said the statue will be created by Ronald McDowell, a self-taught painter and sculptor that has created multiple pieces on display throughout the United States. And he praised leaders like the Rev. Cromwell Handy, pastor at the Dexter Avenue church and president of the Montgomery Improvement Association, for continuing to push for the monument."

Another article in 2019 in the Advertiser covered the topic in depth.

But in recent years? Crickets.
