Montgomery Catholic celebrated its 150th anniversary this week.
Tuition is now $10,800 for the highest grade offered".
But when it opened, in 1873, tuition was between $4.00 and $6.00 a month. It was the first private elementary school in Alabama.
WAKA Action News 8 posted a story, but it does not answer at least one question.
There were 85 students when it opened, there are now 742, but I can't seem to find out if the students body was segregated, since that was the "law of the land" in Alabama that year. I'll update this posting when and if I receive a reply from the school. (If yes, was the church going along with a clearly immoral and wrong rule?)
Reply? NONE. Perhaps my email should have gone to someone else at the school? Other than the communications director?😎
Currently the school body is 63% White, according to a USNews&World Report database...
