....although Washington died 19 years before Alabama became a state....his death came on the same date as the day Alabama achieved statehood...December 14th.

The portrait of Washington is by American portrait painter Gilbert Stuart. It is one of at least 100 such George Washington portraits that he painted! (one of them was used as the basis of the Washington you see on the $1 bill!)
