If you lived in Montgomery a couple of decades ago, you may remember The Montgomery Mall as perhaps the most popular shopping area in the city. It fell into decline after some teen gunmen got into a shootout inside, with nobody wounded.
Not long after that. Montgomery police surrounded the mall and required anyone trying to leave to show their identification to officers. It seemed to me at the time to be a major over-reaction, and in my mind, it marked the beginning of the end for the mall.
There's a website with lots of photos of what Montgomery Mall used to look like HERE.
I've been thinking about it this holiday weekend because there was a shooting (no injuries) inside Eastdale Mall....one of the few malls that remain open, and I HOPE it will survive unlike The Montgomery Mall.
