"A Centre man has died following an accident in an all-terrain vehicle in Cherokee County on Friday evening.

Scott F. Wade, 51, was killed after his ATV left the road and hit an embankment. He was thrown from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

“(Wade) was fatally injured when the 1999 Honda TRX 400FS ATV he was operating left the roadway and struck an embankment,” ALEA said in a press release.

Wade was not wearing a helmet during the crash, according to the agency. The incident occurred at about 9 p.m. Friday evening about nine miles from Piedmont on Cherokee County 28. An investigation is underway by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

 In 2018, there were 8 ATV-related fatalities in Alabama, according to the Consumer Federation of America.  The state reached a death toll peak of 20 ATV occupant fatalities in 2009.
