The incredible estate is being sold by a local megachurch, the New Light Christian Center Church, having served for many years as the residence of its founder, Bishop I.V. Hilliard.
The estate was classified by Hilliard as a parsonage, meaning that he has not had to pay any property taxes on it.
In 2021, an attorney for the church told the Houston Chronicle that the property's primary use was as a "minister’s retreat and conference center," which made it eligible for tax breaks.
