Trump didn't want to have anything to do with Vietnam and he managed to avoid the U.S. Military Draft several times.

“Mr. Trump claimed (his medical deferment) was because of a bone spur, but when I asked for medical records, he gave me none and said there was no surgery,” Cohen told members of the House Oversight Committee. “He told me not to answer the specific questions by reporters but rather offer simply the fact that he received a medical deferment.
“He finished the conversation with the following comment:
‘You think I'm stupid, I wasn't going to Vietnam.’”
Now he wants to eliminate U.S. funding to destroy thousands of still- active mines left behind. They kill and maim people in Vietnam frequently.

"The Vietnam War ended half a century ago, but American weapons from that era continue to kill people to this day. Unexploded bombs rained down by American troops are littered across large swaths of Vietnam and neighboring Cambodia and Laos. They have killed tens of thousands and maimed many more since the fighting ended.
People have been working to clear out these bombs for decades, but experts say it may take another 100 years to finish the job. The United States is a big part of the effort and has given out more than $750 million over the past three decades to clear out the unexploded ammunition in the three countries."
