The Next President?

Former President Bill Clinton has been hinting at who could be the next U.S. president, according to Politico.

The 42nd president believes California Gov. Gavin Newsom could win the 2028 presidential election.

Clinton interviewed the governor at the Clinton Global Initiative this fall.

A prominent Democrat told Politico that the former president is impressed by Newsom’s talent. Clinton referred to Newsom as a “dedicated student” who has what it takes to be president.

The Politico profile reported that Newsom would be ‘thrilled’ to be compared to Clinton.

Willie Brown, a political powerhouse and former San Francisco mayor, thinks Newsom could win the White House.

“Big time,” said Brown, who served in the state Assembly before becoming mayor. “He’s the movie star,” he added.

Brown gave Newsom his first break when he appointed the then-28-year-old Balboa Cafe owner to San Francisco’s Parking and Traffic Commission.

According to the latest Echelon Insights polling data, Newsom leads among potential Democratic candidates with 29% average support. Former Vice President Kamala Harris follows with 17%, while former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg is at 12%.

In an October interview with CBS News, Newsom told the outlet that he may consider a run for president after the 2026 midterm elections.

Newsom’s final term as California governor will come to an end in 2026. He has reached his term-limited and cannot run for reelection.
