I was pleased to be invited to moderate/facilitate part of a Mass Transit conference sponsored by Easter Seals of Central Alabama today on the campus of Auburn University Montgomery. Representatives of a wide variety of organizations and agencies with an interest in the topic were there, talking about the difficulties a lack of Mass Transit presents in Alabama (If there's a job available across town but you don't have a car, the job opening doesn't mean much...)
The organizers, including Jon Broadway, will use the conference as a springboard to come up with a list of actions that could improve the situation. One, for example, would be to make it easier for entities with just a few vans find affordable liability insurance to use those vans to augment Mass Transit systems. They're doing good work, and I wish them well!
