ARF!
Do Dah Day snuck up on me this year...it's this Saturday, and as an official DDD Judge-For-Life, I'll be in place helping to select winners in some of the catagories of pets in the annual parade. Look for me on the judges stand at Rhodes Park about 11:00 a.m. Here's the link to the official event site!

I'd love to take my dog Saul to that. However, he is an extremely unsocialized, intact male German Shepherd who has a fanatical dislike of other dogs and strange people. He is so protective of me that my husband can't get within ten feet of me without the dog either getting between us or jumping on him. He loves his mama.
ReplyDeleteHe'd probably gobble someone or their furry baby up and there I'd be.
I think I saw you post a pic of Saul...yea, I'd give him lots of leaway. There are hundreds of dogs and other critters at the event, but they mostly behave...I've seen very few fights over the years.
ReplyDeleteI've never had anyone get out of their car in my yard when he is out in his fence. One day I had a sheriff's deputy drop by to deliver some paper work on a case. I didn't know he was out there and was taking Saul for a walk at the same time. We met face to face coming around the corner. It got ugly. The deputy backed slowly towards his car and I had to drag the monster back in the house where he proceeded to run from window to window voicing his displeasure as well as his desire to eat the intruder. Meeting the cop face to face with the dog wasn't deliberate, but I did get quite a giggle out of it.
ReplyDeleteI went to Doo Dah Day in 06 and campaigned there. The wide variety of critters is something everyone should see. There was an awesome turtle with the most exquisite shell. I forget what kind.
I didn't socialize Saul when he was a puppy and that was deliberate. Socializing a security dog ruins them. And he is a serious security dog. His father is a retired military police dog. His genetics are very impressive. His instincts and intuition are downright scary sometimes.
Saul loves his family (although he and dad still have their days) but anyone or anything else is viewed as fair game. I'd thought about muzzling him and bringing him but he is so headstrong and physically strong that he would wear me out even with his pinch collar on.
Guess we'll watch the festivities on FTR Friday night :)
(BTW..the link in my first comment is to a pic of me & Saul.)
