Now it's Business Week....as in a magazine business people read all the time. Business people like the ones who might want to open new factories. Factories like....
Anyway, here's their version of the "Rubes in Alabama ban wine label" story. Great work ABC Board!
[Note: there is a typo of sorts in the story...he refers to taking the bottles off the Georgia store shelves. But you know how it is...Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee...they're all the same to the folks who publish Business Week...places to go to avoid union labor costs. And to mock at the least provocation.]
Did I say thanks to the ABC Board?
Yeah... maybe we should give 'em some of AL's famous Goat Hill cheese to go with that "whine," eh? *LOL*
ReplyDeleteActually, Belle Chevre goat cheese made in Elkmont, AL is among the world's greatest cheeses! No kidding! 800.735.2238
Anyway...
Hahn Family Wines’ president was in AL recently to meet with some of their distributors, and in the course with AL's ABC.
Turns out this debacle was initiated by a new hire at Hahn Family Wines whom overlooked and "filed away" AL ABC’s reply to the winery's app for the label with AL's ABC.
Not having experience, the new hireling completely ignored the letter from the ABC, and the wine with that label wound up in AL.
I asked ABC about the Ménage à Trois brand, my opinion on Gladiators wine label notwithstanding, and wondered how, winebibber or teetotaler, parents might explain to their children what that meant. (I do not find the Hahn label offensive, neither erotic or suggestive.)
AL ABC acknowledged this publicity would be good for Hahn’s business. And Cycles Gladiators wine will end us being sold in AL, albeit perhaps with a different label.
BTW, AL was ahead of the curve on label laws - an important consumer protection issue - because they allow inspectors and others to trace back to the source any food item should there be any concern about its safety. Now, post 911 federal law mandates it.
Liberal or Conservative? Progressive or Regressive?
Go figure.
And you know, folks that move down here rarely move back!
Y’all come to Sweet Home Alabama!
Being a wine lover, I enjoyed going through your blog. Keep it up the good work. Cheers :)
