Jefferson County Doldrums

Bloomburg is out with a rundown of the rundown financial condition of Jefferson County, using the trial of Birmingham's Mayor Larry Langford as a launching pad. The questions of declaring bankruptcy is still unresolved, but time i s running out...like the money is.

  1. Frankly, I was astounded that the legislature approved re-taxing the working people of this state whom choose, or by default cannot work anywhere else in the state.

And, some can't simply move out of that sucking black hole.

It's not difficult to understand the people's disgust when, rather than attend to fiscal problems, the "Idiot in Chief" mayor suggests diverting money to build a giant dome. Maybe he needs an aluminum foil dome over his head, instead! The aliens have clearly sucked out the remains of his brain. And, some might argue, that he has remains-for-brains, anyway.

Matter of fact, I may consider purchasing a billboard on I-65 or other major in-road to mock. Perhaps it could read "You are nearing Jefferson County and Birmingham. Turn back now, while you have a chance."

Or, something similar like, "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here."

Or maybe, "Welcome to the Tragic City, the sucking Black Hole of Alabama."

Or, "If it weren't for UAB, we'd be dead by now."

Or, "Welcome to Birmingham, where even Cowboy Bob and the legislature can't fix what we and LaLa screw up."

Or, "Stay here long enough, and you'll catch our disease."

Or, "Welcome to Birmingham... I think."

Better yet, I could sell bumper stickers!

You know, what Birmingham needs is a revolt. The people should simply STOP paying for any of the services they still barely receive.

Better yet, move out. Let the whole damn thing collapse.
