No jurors read birmingham news editorial section.Of course they are Tuscaloosa area residents, and perhaps they read the Tuscaloosa News editorials every day...but if you were on trial, who would you rather have on the jury: intelligent, aware folks who actually read newspapers (or keep up in other ways), or those who are somewhat "less aware"?

Tim, surely you don't mean to imply that people whom by choice, don't read or watch the news are bad citizens, uneducated or unintelligent!
ReplyDeleteTo do so, of course, would imply that intelligence, education and good citizenship can be obtained only and exclusively through news and other media outlets!
Tuscaloosa residents who suscribe to Comcast Cable get news from Birmingham via four television stations and probably are well informed on daily happenings in the magic city. Also the Tuscaloosa News does a good job in keeping the local public up to date on out of town news. I suspect most of us living here have heared quiet a bit about the goings on in Birmingham.
ReplyDeleteReading the editorial page doesn't make you ill-informed. It means you don't need to read other peoples opinions and prefer to make up your own mind. Oddly enough, that's what you'd want in an ideal juror.
