My latest report for WBHM Radio in Birmingham (90.3-FM) is the story of three Alabama residents who still use manual typewriters. The three type-writers are:
Former Birmingham News Sports writer Clyde Bolton, who's new book "Stratham Wildcats On A Roll, They've Been Drinking Hadicol!" will be published early in 2010.
American Typewriter Company Owner William Lee.
And New South Books Publisher Randall Williams.
Why would they use such an old fashioned machine instead of a PC? Listen to the report to find out!
The story will air as part of Tapestry, a WBHM arts program that airs today (Friday) at 12:30, and Saturday at 11:00am.
You can hear the report online courtesy WBHM here.
If the report gets you curious about the old machines, there is a lot of information online. For example, an Office Machines History site...an orchestra that performs using them (really!)... and a Virtual Typewriter Museum...all of them lots of fun.
