Tim James "English Only" ads are generating tons of publicity around the world, much of it critical. James wants the state to offer only English language driver's exams.
Today's New York Times joins in the cries of indignation, calling him the Xenophobic candidate.
Tim James says, "This is Alabama, if you want to live here learn the language." My response to Mr. James is: This is the 21st century - if you want to live here get on board with reality.
ReplyDeleteI don't support Mr. James, nor was I a fan of his father, Fob.
ReplyDeleteHowever, from a strictly fiscal perspective, it would seem to make sense that publishing in ONE language would make sense - i.e., be fiscally prudent.
As well, there IS such a thing as an "International Driver License."
I don't think Mr. James is xenophobic, but I think his idea has some merit.
Further, there is no prohibition against making English our official state language.
On with the show!
BTW... other nations - Holland, for one - REQUIRE people coming to their nation for extended periods to be fundamentally articulate in their NATIONAL LANGUAGE - Dutch.
Oh... excuse me, pardon moi - I may have hit an un-funny bone - the national bone(head) of stupidity.
