Frankly, I would be surprised if the people did not rise up against the abuses and too-cozy relationship that federal regulators of all variety have had with BIG OIL.
This unfortunate tragedy will be one of multiple exponential and manifold proportions if no changes occur to the laws and regulatory organizations that were allowed to be abused.
What will especially be interesting to observe are the reactions from the neo-conservative/right-wing crowd.
Mr. Williams, the chief electronic tech on the rig, made the most cogent of all comments to date. After escaping with his life, he stated that the blow-out-preventer's seal at its top was damaged and not repaired. This is why the pressure tests were "inconclusive", and why gas was surely going to blow out as soon as the drilling mud was removed at ORDER OF BP. He noted that that 1 of the 2 "fail safe initiator systems" run by wire was KNOWN to be inoperative.
This is unbelievably dishonest, and totally careless behaviour on the part of BP. Adjectives fail me here. A nationwide boycott of BP is the only folk remedy available. Lets call it the "Oil Party"
