A Dave White story in this morning's Birmingham News ranked Alabama next to last when it comes to taxes we pay locally.
But it was the state at the top of the list that got my attention. Not Taxachusetts or New Yawk or New Joisey...but Sarah Palin's Alaska. Huh? Maybe that's why she didn't want to be Governor there any more?
[UPDATE: Which state gets the most Federal money????]
All of this begs the question: if the GOP line that low taxes and less government are key to economic success, then Alabama should be near the top among economic powerhouses, with more jobs and opportunities than at least 48 of the other states, right? So then the rhetorical question, why doesn't the GOP promote Alabama as the poster child for success, proving the efficacy of the GOP economic strategy?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Alaska give huge rebates to its citizens, offsetting the high taxes?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that their snow removal budget is greater than Alabama's.
