I suspect the experiences of the couples profiled in the article, like being asked it they are together at a restaurant, even if they are arm-in-arm, are just as common in Alabama and the rest of the Old South.

There is one restaurant here in Montgomery which I frequent so often that they automatically bring out my unsweet tea, when they see me walking on the sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteIf I am with my wife (who is of the same race as me), they still ask if I'm paying for both. I reply that we've been married 42 years and yes, I'll be paying.
Perhaps this is because she is from Pennsylvania and I from New England.
