Old Things Pass

Is your High School still standing?
I know folks who graduated last year, or even ten years ago, are certain theirs is. But older folks may shake their heads sadly remembering the day theirs was torn down. It happens to virtually all school buildings eventually.
On the grounds of my old school in Goshen, N.Y. was an old tower on a hillside. I always believed it was used by the original wealthy owner of the property to watch the "Trotters" (harness) race at the track in town. Anyway, I read today that it has been torn down because it was in danger of crumbling. Click on that last link for a series of pictures of it being pulled down.
The tower was open to the air and used to be filled with pigeons and, of course, their droppings. Climbing the circular wooden stairs that wound around the interior circumference was a messy affair, but the view from up on top was amazing. It probably dated to the late 1800's.

  1. This post prompted me to look up my old high school in Bloomfield, Conn. I graduated in 1960.

Yes, it's still there although the exterior has changed somewhat. There's now a second high school in town.

What surprised me was that on a ten-point scale, BHS is rated only a 2 and did not meet the AYP goals.
