Ashamed of Alabama

"I am ashamed of being from Alabama."

     The Pulitzer Prize winning author reaches that conclusion in a commentary in this morning's New York Times. She writes that her home state's immigration law is a kind of  "Juan Crow" return to the state's historic segregation policies. 

     And, in case you missed it, one of the faces on the cover of this week's TIME magazine (bottom right) is from Birmingham...an "illegal alien" willing to be pictured on the cover of a national magazine. Would Alabama authorities make a special effort to arrest him after his public stand?   
     President Obama's end run around Congress this week may have blocked that possible move.
