An old oak tree on the grounds of the First White House of The Confederacy near the Alabama State Capitol lost a big limb this week.
It fell early in the morning hours and blocked Union Street and knocked out power and traffic signals for a while because it pulled down a power line mast. Looks hollow to me, and the house administrators planned to have the city's tree expert come by to see if it OK.
Jefferson Davis never saw these trees...the house was moved to this location decades ago to make way for construction of another building.
It's a good thing it was the limb over the street that fell, and not one over the house! And a good thing it happened at 3:00am, rather than when morning rush hour was underway.
I'll check back next week and see if the tree will have to come down.

Very ironic that the First White House of the Confederacy is located on Union Street.
