MMMM #239 -- Time Capsule

The time capsule that City of Montgomery officials sealed up in the cornerstone of the refurbished City Hall last Thursday included more than just a newspaper to turn yellow and crumble.
I proposed that CBS 8 ask the city to include a flash-drive with CBS 8 News on it (including CBS 8 This Morning). We did, and the city agreed. So 75 years from now, in 2063, the city officials who open the capsule will be able to watch CBS 8 TV coverage of the time-capsule being filled in 2012...presuming they know what a flash drive is! It's a nice early tech-event leading up to the impending move of CBS-8, ABC-32 and WBMM  into our state of the art studios on Harrison Road.
When the old time capsule was sealed up 75 years ago, there was no TV news at all.
Long before the new one is opened, I suspect, there will be no newspapers.

[AND....perhaps the layoffs at the papers are beginning to show up in the headlines?

Two disclaimers about my comments: I know the reporters generally do not write the headlines, and yes, there is no shortage of errors at this site....but then again, this is not the largest daily newspaper in Alabama.]

[AND a PBS website headline with a problem:

U.S. Navy, Allies Find Less Than Half the Sea Mines Planted in Key Exercise

(.....or fewer?)

[PLUS! A Forbes column on the changing nature of journalism includes some keys to the future. Though nobody really knows where we will end up, it's a sure bet we won't be going back to the old models.
