Black Monday

The day after Thanksgiving has been called "Black Friday" by businesses for years, because it is the start of a shopping season that will make or break retailers.
But as CBS 8 reported yesterday, some of the biggest retailers in the U-S say they will open even earlier than last year: on Thanksgiving Evening at 8pm.
Some consumers and employees are saying enough is enough! They want people to be able to spend the day with their family. If workers are going in for an 8 hour shift at 8pm, will they be asleep at Noon on Thanksgiving? One petition on change.org focusing on Target was closed after it quickly reached its goal of 200,000 signatures.
The L.A. Times has a story too, reporting that Target, has become one.
But wait! Haven't we seen this story before? Yes! Last year petitions were gathered to convince Target not to open at Midnight on Thanksgiving night. It obviously didn't have much of an impact if Target ignored it last year and is now opening four hours earlier.
Sears and Wal-Mart are also behind the even earlier opening movement, and they don't seem to be the target of as many petitions.
Of course the easiest way to prevent retailer from opening that early is not to shop that early. But that's probably not going to happen.
