| The Mascots assemble on College Colors Day 2011 |
Lots of professions have specialized vocabularies. That's why we sometimes need translations when doctors or lawyers or scientific specialists talk.
And it's true of sports reporters too. They write, for example, of a recruit "committing" to Alabama. Yet, this morning, there's
this sports headline:
Report: Cornerback Jahmere Irvin-Sills decommits from Auburn
Which kinda kills the meaning of the word commit, no?
It's simply a ten-dollar word for "backs out."
