For a decade or two, I've been fascinated by the "sampling" of one musician's work by other musicians. At what point is it downright stealing?
Legal careers are being spent studying the issues brought about by digital media. What is "fair use" anymore, and what is downright theft?
A segment of the public radio program On The Media dealt with a new warning system being instituted by some of the largest ISP's in the country. It is supposed to convince file sharers not to do it. Another segment on the show includes the comments of a professor who says the new system is bound to fail.
And the show also included the story of a musician who covered a popular song, only to find that cover used on the FOX show Glee, with no credit, of course.
Heck, just listen to the entire OTM show here.
Oh, and a Shameless Plug:
PLUS: Some Montgomery media watchers say a reporter at another TV station fell for the Onion satire about a big time PR firm recommending the U.S. Government distance itself from Alabama. OK. It's not bragging to say we knew that The Onion is ALL satire ALL of the time. See the post here. I mean, she really called the PR company? Really? Is Alfred E. Newman her producer?
