Early Submarine: Rescue Napoleon!

      Submarines came into their own in the late 1800's and early 1900's, but this diagram from the 1830's shows the concept was well established, if not executed, a lot earlier. In fact, the first submarine design dates to 1578! 
     The Smithsonian Magazine profiles an 1820 plot to use a sub to rescue Napoleon from exile!
