MMMM # 373 -- "Unscientific" Poll = journalism?

The website of the remnants of what used to be the three largest daily newspapers in Alabama actually did a story based on their admittedly unscientific poll.

1) The poll is unscientific and therefore meaningless.

2) They use in, nonetheless, as the basis for a story.

3) The "story" is therefore also meaningless. Why would they publish it?

I know there must be true journalists still there cringing at as the lines are crossed.

Kudos to columnist John Archibald for admitting he went too far in his critique of a new law signed by the Governor. Heck I linked to his original column because I felt the same way about the law, and I'm still not convinced that there aren't lines being crossed there.
For example, the law allows the state to used eminent domain to condemn property for a for-profit development for the sole reason that there is excessive undeveloped land involved.
How can that be good in a state that claims individual freedom and property rights are important?
     John: rethink your rethink.
