MMMM # 376 -- Journalism via Press Release

Just a couple of notes this morning!

  • I've seen examples of entire news releases being "published" on TV News websites..sometimes to the extent that even the "contact information" is left intact. I guess they figure one-sided PR information is better than no info at all? Now comes a new tool that allows you to compare a story to other web writing, allowing you to unmask the fake news from the real thing.

Of course it is even easier just to stick to online sites that don't permit news by PR machine in the first place.

  • And if  you want advice on how to handle a negative story from your past, cases in point are  stories about the new Seattle Washington Police Chief. I don't know if he'll survive the uproar over his participation in a video mocking homeless people under a bridge, but at least his up-front approach gives him a fighting chance.
Have a good week!
