The Alabama Attorney General is going to hand out awards to Alabama schools that exhibit "best practices" for school safety.
Luther Strange made that announcement today in Montgomery, the day after a 60 Minutes report with some of the parents of the children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. Those parents pleaded with Congress to implement an across the board background check for gun buyers and a ban on large automatic weapon clips.
I won't try to put words in the mouths of those poor parents, but I suspect their "best practices" would involve more than paper certificates.
Strange had previously promised to challenge similar legislation under consideration in Congress if it passes, calling it "abusive federal overreach".
