Bentley vs Who?

Governor Bentley has had a rough ride since his election, despite the fact that he has a super-majority Republican House and Senate to pass his legislation, and the fact that every statewide elective office is held by his party.
How do you explain the fact that the changes he wants made to the "Accountability" (i.e. Public Cash for Private Schools) Act?
He signed the initial bill, but now wants to put off implementation for two years. Yet his own Republican majorities are warning him they won't approve it....Senate President Pro-Tem Del March says he won't even let it come up for consideration!
And Bentley's flip-flopping on that legislation is mind-boggling. Now he says he never wanted public school money to go to private schools...even though that was clearly what the bill allowed. Read Josh Moon's Montgomery Advertiser column today on that subject if you have access through the pay wall.
Bentley has no shortage of public approval...if his re-election were voted on today he's be a shoe- in. Most of the potential GOP challengers have said they will not run against him in the primary. But with his own party restless, a lot can happen between now and 2014

  1. I read it in the good old fshioned print version, but I think one can access it through (gulp!) www.al.com.

  2. Nah, Jay, that's only for the papers in Birminghgam, Huntsville and Mobile, which are owned by the same company. The Advertiser has its own site at www.montgomeryadvertiser.com, and they are very much competitors. There is a pay-wall to it. Al.com has not done that yet, but I won't be surprised to see it before too long.
