Sure, the headlines sound sexy...the Governor and his party of 7 go to Paris and it cost $97,000!
Out of total state spending of about $6-Billion a year?
Do you think Bentley & Co. should have rowed there and stayed in a tent in a homeless encampment?
Or should the state shut down its outreach to new and expanded business?
Hey, I'm critical of the state giving those businesses too much in incentives to come to Alabama, but with the right safeguards, even those are acceptable.
And if there were overly expensive meals or bottles of wine on the bill, maybe the Guv should be a little more frugal. $97k is a lot more than the average Alabamian makes in a year, or spends on a car, or maybe even on a house.
But to put it into perspective, it's a pittance. Pennies. Let it go.

And he says that Alabama "can't afford" to expand Medicaid, even though it's free for the first three years and after that. the Fed pays 90%.
ReplyDeleteThe economic benefit for expanding Medicaid in Alabama would be in the billions of dollars, but NO, just because the GOP is the Party of No.
