There is an Internet posting making the rounds urging people NOT to go see "The Butler", a movie about a butler who served in the White House under several presidents.
Is it a racial protest? No.
It it against the way president's are portrayed? No.
Is it because Jane Fonda is cast as Nancy Reagan? Kinda.
Does she do a disservice in her acting? No.
Is she disrespectful of Mrs. Reagan? No, or at least not that I hear.
It is because of a false story about Fonda during her visit to North Vietnam to protest the Vietnam war.
The email is from "a Vietnam Veteran" who says Fonda took secret notes from U.S. POWs and passed them on to their captors.
Never happened. Never. There's enough of what Jane Fonda actually DID do to hate her, if that's what you want.
But I'm a Vietnam Veteran too, and I urge you to refer people who send out the false and vile email about the secret notes to the Snopes.com web page entry about the supposed incident.
She didn't do it. Period.
