A papermill is closing down for good in Courtland, leaving 1,100 people out of work.
Courtland is in North Alabama West of Decatur.
[UPDATE: The Decatur Daily reports on 9-14-13 that talks continue to seek a way to keep the mill open, including, of course, giving International Paper some form of taxpayer dollars, perhaps to buy new equipment.]
