Throwing Money At It

That's what critics always say about increasing government spending on problems.
But Alabama and 33 other states have been doing the opposite. At the same time we are depending on education to prepare kids for a challenging job market, those states have reduced the amount they spend on K-12 education.
Alabama has taken some of the money away and given it to parents to pay for private schools (though that number is so small that the minority Democratic legislators say the entire plan should be scrapped. Like they would support it if the number was large?)

  1. Note that North Dakota and Iowa are already among the states with the highest degree of literacy.

Yet they continue to put money where it matters--in education!
