The EPA agrees to regulate Coal Ash

That's significant because there are plenty of coal ash producers in the state, notably Alabama Power and TVA.
The agreement comes after years of pressure by environmental groups.

They sued EPA to regulate coal ash, but the agency dragged its heels, bowing to apparent pressure from the coal ash producers who did not want any added regulation. Much of the coal ash from the spill was carried by thousands of rail cars to the largest commercial dump West of The Mississippi, in Uniontown, Perry County Alabama.
One of the nine coal ash ponds in Alabama is at an Alabama Power plant in West Alabama, in Greene County.

The agreement means EPA has till next December to issue rules for coal ash disposal, but a court battle could mean years could pass before any new regulations are implemented.
