My Paternal Grandparents |
I come from a long line of Irish folk...they moved to the U.S. in the late 1800's, settling in New York.
A number of them became Irish cops, including my Dad and his Dad.
One the other side, my Maternal Grandfather was a firefighter.
All of them remembered their roots, the hardships their ancestors had suffered through famines (natural and Englishman-assisted) and then the prejudice they faced in the New World.
I cheer them all each day, especially on this day when there are parades and celebrations in honor of their homeland.
