If you think the profit motive will make medical care for veterans better, you'll love the proposal making the rounds in GOP circles now.
Allegations that Veterans had to wait too long for health care, and that some may have died as a result, are increasing calls for turning the entire system over to for-profit hospitals.
Privatizing, they call it.
FOX News has the story.
As a healthcaare professional myself (registered nurse), I have long been opposed to the healthcare-for-profit model. Hospitals become beholden to share holders, and CEOs take profits that should go to patient care. The double-dog dastardly deed at play here is that elected officials in Washington refuse to fund government healthcare (as in the VA system) and then say, "Well, government can't do the job, so let's give our friends in the private sector a chance to run healthcare." They refuse to fund the work, then blame it all on the federal bureaucracy.
