NY Times columnist Tim Egan wrote this week about American ignorance of American History, including a denial that slavery was the cause of The U.S. Civil War.
I'm learning more and more about how ending slavery grew as a motivation for the war during the war in the book The Fall of The House of Dixie.
Then there was The League of The South, a neo-confederate group that proposes another Civil War. They paid for a short-lived billboard in Montgomery with one word: SECEDE.
Talk about historical ignorance.
Memorial Day weekend would be a good a time to visit a cemetery where some of the 750,000 from both sides who died the last time around.
