That's the explanation given by a 16 year old charged with shooting a cab driver in the back of the head twice, and then taking $500 from the dying driver in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
It is true that crime in the U.S. is down to an historic low, but with events like that shooting, and the deaths of seven people shot and stabbed to death in Southern California over the weekend, it certainly doesn't feel like it is down.

The L.A. Times obtained a lengthy disturbing blueprint allegedly written by Elliot Rodger, who also left behind a series of online videos so disturbing that police were called, but found no reason to be alarmed. The Times say she wrote:
"That would have ended everything," he wrote. "For a few horrible seconds, I thought it was all over."
Unfortunately it was not.
